Down with My Demons spotlights local talent, both in art and music, in an effort to create a more open dialog about mental health. Eight Carolina based artists have been selected to showcase their diverse personal styles paired with their unanimous ability to evoke emotion and portray concepts. Accompanying the art show will be musical performances by local Charlotte bands Modern Primitives, Zodiac Lovers, Lxs Ortiz, and Lofidels which will be live streamed online.

This exhibit serves to benefit NAMI (National Alliance of Mental Illness) Charlotte, a grassroots organization that provides advocacy, resources, and education to those affected by mental illness. Representatives from NAMI Charlotte will attend each opening to answer questions and provide needed community resources.

Down with My Demons mission is to destigmatize the discussion around mental illness, a topic that affects each of us, especially during a worldwide pandemic. A recent Kaiser Family Foundation study found that 45% of adults in the U.S. have reported that their mental health has been impacted negatively by the virus. Widespread experience of loneliness, paired with massive job loss and health anxiety create a perfect storm of psychological trauma. Now more than ever is a time for increased awareness and unity.

Please join Gallery C3 as we welcome curator Raelynn Perry for the opening night celebration and-walk through of Down with My Demons on Friday, August 7th from 7 to 10 pm featuring Modern Primitives and Zodiac Lovers. The Friday, September 4th gallery reception will feature performances by Lxs Ortiz and Lofidels. Social distancing, space capacity limits and face masks will be enforced at both gallery receptions.
